Andy spends some time working on his Ford tractor and later tries to get the sawmill running. I’m busy taking care of the animals for the evening and a little surprise is waiting on me out in the pasture. If you’d like to visit our website you can find it here https://truegritappalachianways.com

About This Video

Hey y’all. In this one it’s just like the title—always somethin’, ain’t it? We got another dustin’ of snow, so I used that kind of weather to knock out some mechanic work instead of fightin’ mud and slick ground all day. I walked down to the barn for a little “exercise” (instead of ridin’), then dug into that old Ford tractor I bought. The hydraulic cylinder was leakin’ and one of the hoses was too, so I pulled the cylinder off, took the lines loose, and found out quick I needed new O-rings too—some of ‘em were flattened and even ripped. While I was at it, I noticed another problem—flat as can be truck tire. That’s just how it goes around a place like this. I ran the hoses to a local shop that’ll make hydraulic lines fast (they told me an hour, and they meant it), and I got a quote on rebuildin’ the cylinder that wasn’t near as bad as I expected. Then I fooled with the sawmill, which always acts up if it sits—fuel shutoff solenoid gummed up again, even after runnin’ 93 non-ethanol and treatment last season. We wrapped the day with evening chores, mud everywhere, and a surprise in the pasture: a brand-new calf that showed up without givin’ me the signs I thought I’d see. Real life on the homestead, plain and simple.
