About This Video

Hey y’all, it’s Megan, and in this one we’re easing into a beautiful winter morning after that sleet storm. We were blessed it didn’t turn into the big ice storm they called for, but we still had a good 2–3 inches of sleet that looked just like snow. I made cinnamon rolls for a cold breakfast, and Andy got right to chores—thawing water, checking the stock tank heater, and soaking the horses’ feed (especially for Quasi, since he doesn’t have teeth). Seeing the cows dried off and looking better than yesterday was a big relief, and we were mighty thankful the power stayed on. Later we take a walk together and just soak in how pretty the place looks with that crusty sleet layer shining on everything. We talk about winter water struggles, why a thick ice layer on cows can actually be a good sign, and how wind + cold + wet all at once can be a recipe for disaster if animals don’t have shelter. We also answer a question about our greenhouse—during the day it’ll get hot, but at night it drops fast, so we’ve learned not to jump the gun starting seeds too early. It’s simple homestead life: chores first, a little playing when we can, and gratitude for a calm, sunny thaw after the storm.
