About This Video

In this video I unbox and fully assemble the Kobalt 84-inch 4-tier bolted heavy duty shelf, and I’ll tell you right up front—this thing is a beast. It weighs about 160 lbs, and it’s rated for up to 1,500 lbs of evenly distributed weight, so plan your move and your workspace before you start. I laid all the frame components out, found the piece with the Kobalt logo (that’s where the hardware was tucked), and then got into building the side frames, cross bracing, and rails. I walk through the details that actually matter when you’re building it: using the shorter bolts for the cross support, the longer bolts for the middle fold-out supports, and paying attention to rail orientation (the lip has to face up or the clips won’t seat right). I used a rubber mallet to tap the rails down snug, installed the plastic riser pieces (three per shelf), and showed how the top shelf ships folded and simply unfolds into place. I finished the build and explained my plan—I'm not installing the wire grates because I’m using this as a 3D printer stand, aiming for 8 printers (maybe 10), and I’ll likely add L-brackets to the wall to reduce shake while the printers are running.
