In this video I walk through a full install of the BAKFlip MX4 hard folding tonneau cover on my 2023 Toyota Tacoma (short bed). Before I even got to the install, I had a pretty wild ordering experience—Amazon delivered the wrong cover twice (first for a Ford, then for a Chevy) before I finally got the correct Tacoma model. I also talk about the odd request from support to “prove” the mistake by drilling holes in the wrong units, which I’m pushing back on because I’d rather not create unnecessary waste. For the install, I show what’s actually in the box (rails, hardware, foam, drain tubes) and the basic tools you need—mainly a T30 Torx bit and a drill/impact. I remove the factory tie-down rail, install the BAKFlip rails with the included brackets, then reinstall the factory rail using the smaller screws so you can still use your tie-down system. I also cover mounting the latch hardware by hand (no impact), aligning the cover, and adding the foam pads so the folded panels don’t bang into the truck. Big takeaway: that front weather strip is only needed if you don’t have a bed liner—mine interfered with sealing, so I removed it. I also chose to hold off on drilling for the drain tubes until I see how much water intrusion I get after a few real rainstorms, because no cover is 100% waterproof.
