In this mail call video, Debbie joins me at the workbench while I crack open a care package that Robert Sacko sent over from the Suncoast Model Railroad Club. Because of daylight savings time we got rolling a little late, and the box sat by the door until Debbie reminded me, “Hey, aren’t you going to open up that box you got?” So we sat down and went through it together, and I’ll tell you what—Robert absolutely loaded me up. Inside were a bunch of neat kits and details that are going to look great on the layout: a 1940 Ford coupe, a 32 Chevy pickup, a Model A station wagon, Railway Express trucks, a beer wagon with horses, and even a 1923 Mack aerial ladder fire truck. There were also scratchbuilder-style parts like engine pieces, a mine car, scenic details (including a “bear hunter”), and multiple trackside buildings—station-style pieces and a nice brick/stone-looking structure that I’m excited to paint up. The big takeaway is simple: these kinds of vehicles and trackside kits add a ton of life to a scene, and now I’ve got plenty to keep me busy building and painting.
