In this video I’m breaking down what Pokémon Winds and Waves means for Nintendo Switch 2, and to me it’s pretty simple: Nintendo just told us they’ve got a straight-up system seller lined up for 2027. That also tells me Switch 2 isn’t some quick transition console—Nintendo plans to keep supporting it deep into 2027, and they’re serious about moving on from Switch 1. I also talk about how Nintendo isn’t doing the “Sony method” where you keep getting first-party games on the old system for a couple years. After this year, once the last Switch 1 game we know about (Rhythm Heaven Groove) drops, I’m expecting Nintendo to be fully focused on Switch 2. And if you’re still on Switch 1 hoping to play Winds and Waves, tough luck—this game is not coming to Switch 1, so you’ve got time to save up and bite the bullet. Since Winds and Waves isn’t the Switch 2 holiday game for 2026, I end by asking the big question: what is? My hope is a 3D Mario for holiday 2026, but we’re going to have to wait and see.
