About This Video

In this video I break down why the Steam Machine can work… but yeah, there’s a big “but” attached to it. Specs-wise, what got my attention is how it lands in that in-between space: the GPU looks better than an Xbox Series S, but not as strong as a base PS5, while the CPU is actually better than both. On paper, that tells me this thing should be solid for 1080p and maybe 1440p gaming, but I’m not sitting here promising miracles—especially not for modern AAA games. I also talk about the design and the controller. The cube look is honestly neat to me—it reminds me of an Amazon Fire Cube, a GameCube, and even a mini Xbox Series X vibe. The controller though? I’m not sure yet. It doesn’t look all that comfortable, so I’m in “wait and see” mode. But the real make-or-break is pricing. If Valve lands this around $500–$600, I can see it being a legit alternative to a prebuilt for somebody trying to get into PC gaming. If it’s $700–$1,100, it’s going to be a hard sell, because at that point you may as well build a PC.
