In this Valkyrie episode I’m dealing with one of those things that just annoys me: “leakproof” seals that… aren’t. When you pay decent money for a part, you expect it to do the one job it’s literally named after. For me it’s a minor inconvenience because I can tear into my own forks and rebuild whatever needs rebuilding, but if you’d paid a shop to do the work and then it starts leaking again, that’s a much bigger (and more expensive) kick in the teeth. Alongside that, I’m cracking on with a Valkyrie backlight upgrade. It’s part of the bigger Valkyrie rebuild journey—sorting the little details that make the bike nicer to live with and a bit more modern, while still keeping the character. The takeaway here is simple: don’t blindly trust marketing words like “leakproof,” and if you’re building a bike, expect a few curveballs. The win is being able to diagnose it, fix it properly, and keep moving forward with the project.
