About This Video

I’ve been running Calimoto for about six months now, mostly for local spins where the roads are… let’s be honest… pretty straight and pretty dull. In this video I dig into whether Calimoto actually helps you find something interesting to ride when you’re not blessed with endless twisties on your doorstep. I talk through how I’ve been using it, what I like about it for route planning, and where it can still leave you a bit “meh” if your area is basically a ruler on a map. The big takeaway is that Calimoto can absolutely add value if you’re the kind of rider who wants to get out, hit a button, and be nudged toward the better bits you might otherwise miss—especially when you’re trying to make a quick ride feel like an actual ride. But I’m also straight about the limits: an app can’t magically invent corners where there aren’t any. If you’re debating paying for it, I frame it around expectations—if you want help stitching together the best available roads, it’s worth a look; if you expect it to turn straight roads into the Alps, you’re going to be disappointed.
