The ROG Xbox Ally is not a perfect device, and I’m not pretending it is. I’ve been pretty vocal about how much I love the Steam Deck—especially ergonomics and how Valve’s worked hard on compatibility. But this video isn’t a Steam Deck video. I wanted to give the Xbox Ally a more fair, positive look, because there’s a lot of negative attention around it, and from daily use I think it’s objectively a very good PC handheld. So I kept it streamlined and gave you four reasons why I genuinely enjoy it. First, the Windows 11 full screen experience: yes, updates can be annoying, but in real life it’s usually a quick inconvenience, and the upside is massive—this is basically a desktop PC in your hands. That means wide game compatibility, including competitive games with strict kernel-level anti-cheat that the Steam Deck can’t always handle. Then there’s the ergonomics: the grips feel stable, I can hold it more ways while moving around, and the screen angle helps me play comfortably without neck strain. And finally, the speakers—front-facing with an incredible sound stage that makes directional audio feel natural and actually useful. Add in the Xbox-coded UI vibe, plus easy Steam Big Picture access, and it ends up being way more compelling than people give it credit for.
