With the Steam Deck OLED currently out of stock due to the ongoing RAM shortage, a lot of people are trying to figure out what the best alternative is — and whether the newer Windows handhelds are actually worth it. I’m comparing price, performance, screen quality, ergonomics, battery life, efficiency, and the OS experience. While all three devices perform in a similar class, each one has its strengths — from the Steam Deck’s incredible efficiency and OLED display, to the Ally’s flexibility with Windows and awesome built-in speakers, to the Legion Go S offering a strong balance with its larger 120Hz VRR display. If you’re trying to decide which handheld gaming PC is right for you, this video will help you understand which one fits your needs, your budget, and the type of games you actually play. About This Video

Handheld gaming is in a weird spot right now. The Steam Deck OLED is basically sold out worldwide thanks to the RAM shortage, while Windows handhelds are everywhere—and the prices are all over the place. In this video I break down the three “budget / mass market” options people are actually cross-shopping in 2026: Steam Deck OLED, the ROG Xbox Ally, and the Lenovo Legion Go S. I compare price, performance, screens, ergonomics, battery/efficiency, and the real-world OS experience so you don’t buy the wrong one for the games you actually play. Steam Deck OLED is still my personal favorite because SteamOS is lightweight, stable, and ridiculously good at sleep/wake, plus the OLED panel is just beautiful. But I’m also super clear about the hard stop: anti-cheat games (Call of Duty, Battlefield, Apex, Valorant, etc.) are a no-go on Linux for most people. On the Windows side, the Xbox Ally is the easiest “hand it to anyone” option because compatibility is basically a non-issue and the Xbox full-screen mode feels more console-like—plus the speakers are next level. And if you want the best all-around recommendation, I keep coming back to the Legion Go S: bigger 8-inch 120Hz VRR screen, solid ergonomics, and the flexibility to run Windows or SteamOS depending on your use case.
