A ton of you told me the Legion Go S is basically the best value “budget” PC handheld right now (outside of grabbing a used last-gen Ally Z1 Extreme), so I put my money where my mouth is and bought the Windows version. I wanted the real, true Windows handheld experience to compare against what I already use—my Steam Deck (SteamOS) and the Xbox Ally (Windows with more of that Xbox full-screen vibe). In this video I break down how the Legion Go S stands on its own, what it does really well, and the stuff that still annoys me about Windows handhelds in general. The big wins for me are the comfort and that 8-inch display. The form factor is beefy in the right places, my hands sit where they’re supposed to, and the screen is legitimately immersive—120Hz, 1200p, VRR, and an LCD that honestly looks great for what it is. Performance-wise, the Z2 Go chip is “good” as long as you have the right expectations: think low-to-medium settings and roughly 25–45 FPS in a lot of AAA games (I used Arc Raiders as an example and got a solid ~30 FPS locked on low). My takeaway: I like it quite a bit, but I don’t love it at full retail—catch it on sale around $500–$550 and it becomes a really strong pick, especially if you need Windows for anti-cheat games.
