Most gaming keyboards are terrible for the office, and most office keyboards are terrible for gaming—so in this video I’m looking at the Royal Kludge C96 because it’s one of the rare boards that actually does both. It’s a nearly full-size layout in a compact footprint, so I still get the number pad, dedicated arrow keys, and function row for work, but it keeps my desk looking clean and professional. I also go over the little quality-of-life stuff that matters day-to-day, like the vertical slider-style volume control with a dedicated mute button, and how easy it is to shut the RGB off when I’m trying to focus. Where the C96 surprised me is that the gaming features aren’t just marketing fluff. It’s running Hall Effect magnetic switches with rapid trigger, and I can adjust actuation in software, so inputs feel near-instant and responsive when I’m actually playing. On top of that, it’s hot-swappable and easy to customize with keycaps, so it can grow with your setup over time. I’m also honest about my two main gripes: I wish it were wireless to cut desk clutter, and while the sound is satisfying and not obnoxiously loud, it’s a bit muted and not as “polished” as I personally prefer compared to some Redragon boards. Still, if you want one keyboard that can handle work all day and gaming at night, the C96 is a really solid pick.
