In this video I’m breaking down why the 8BitDo Pro 3 is probably my favorite controller from 8BitDo—and yeah, a lot of that comes down to the design. I’m a sucker for anything retro, and this PS1-inspired shape just feels instantly familiar in the hand. But what surprised me is how modern it is under the hood: it’s got premium button feel, a strong D-pad for classic/2D games, and a bunch of little quality-of-life features that actually matter day to day. I go over the swappable face buttons (huge if you bounce between layouts—like making it feel natural on Switch), the adjustable trigger stops that can go from “normal controller” to that rapid, clicky response for faster FPS reactions, and the overall comfort. I do mention my main gripe: it’s pretty close to PS1 size, so with parallel sticks (my preferred layout), my thumbs can bump in modern shooters. The dock is also a standout—leave the dongle in the dock, plug the dock into your console, and it basically becomes one big dongle for instant pairing. Add in TMR sticks (the next step past Hall effect) plus Hall effect triggers for durability, and it’s a super practical all-in-one controller at around $70.
