In this video, I break down the real-world differences between both models and focus on what actually matters if you’re thinking about buying a Deck today. Spoiler: the LCD is still a fantastic handheld — especially if you can catch it during one of Valve’s big sales. Yes, the OLED version brings a brighter screen, deeper contrast, better battery life, and a lighter body. But the LCD still delivers the same gaming experience where it counts: performance, game compatibility, comfort, and raw value especially when there is a Steam Sale like we’ve had multiple times this year. If you already own the LCD or are considering picking one up, you absolutely should not feel like you’re missing out. The improvements are great, but they aren’t so dramatic that the average person needs to rush to upgrade. DeckTok has their Christmas Sale now and they have so many great lighting options. About This Video

Okay, so we need to have a chat. In this video I break down my upgrade journey from the Steam Deck LCD to the Steam Deck OLED, and I’m going to be crystal clear: you’re never going to hear me say the LCD is trash. The OLED is objectively better—screen, battery, weight, Wi‑Fi 6, and a bunch of little quality-of-life stuff—but the LCD is still a fantastic device, especially when Valve drops it to around $320 during big sales. At that price, it’s honestly hard pressed to find a nicer, more turnkey, out-of-the-box handheld experience. The big thing everyone forgets is nuance—how you actually play. If you play docked a lot, a lot of the OLED’s biggest wins basically don’t matter: the screen upgrade is irrelevant on an external display, battery life doesn’t matter while charging, and weight doesn’t matter because you’re not holding it. But if you play handheld, the OLED screen is the star—better contrast, true blacks, more immersion (Dead Space is the perfect example), plus a slightly bigger screen without changing the overall shell size. My takeaway: the OLED is the “better experience,” but the LCD is still a great experience—and I’m not gatekeeping the Steam Deck entry point just because the newer model exists.
