Is Steam Deck able to play new AAA games? Let’s find out! In this video, I talk about real-world performance on two of my favorite games lately: Arc Raiders and Resident Evil Requiem. We’re talking actual frame rates, real settings, real expectations. Arc Raiders runs around 40–45 FPS with mostly medium settings and FSR 3 enabled. Yes, there are occasional dips and some stutters — but once you cap the frame rate, it becomes a very enjoyable handheld experience, especially with HDR on the OLED screen. Resident Evil Requiem was a massive surprise. On mostly medium settings, I’m averaging 55–60 FPS — and in some situations seeing spikes into the 70–80 FPS range. For a brand-new AAA title, that’s incredibly impressive and a testament to strong PC optimization. About This Video

I made this video because I keep seeing the take that “Steam Deck can’t play new AAA games,” and honestly… that’s just not true if you go in with real expectations. I walk through how I personally judge performance on a handheld: I’m fine with 30 FPS and low-to-medium settings, but I’m not okay with stutters, texture pop-in, or games that feel inconsistent. I want smooth and playable, not some maxed-out cinematic showcase. To prove the point, I tested two newer, demanding games: Arc Raiders and Resident Evil Requiem. Arc Raiders sits around 40–45 FPS for me with dips when things get chaotic, so capping to 30 FPS is the easy fix if you want consistency—plus the OLED HDR makes it look incredible in handheld. Resident Evil Requiem was the bigger surprise: mostly medium settings and I’m averaging 55–60 FPS, with swings into the 70–80s at times (and occasional dips into the 40s). I also talk about Lossless Scaling as an optional way to squeeze out more frames, but I’ll be real—I haven’t bought it yet because I’m lazy and cheap, and my baseline is already “good enough.”
