About This Video

In this video I’m taking a look at a little gadget that solves a real problem for smartphone creators: how do you vlog with your phone’s rear cameras (the good ones) and still see yourself? The device is the 7Ryms Qshot V2, which is basically a portable magnetic monitor that sticks to the back of your phone so you can frame yourself while using the back-facing lenses. I walk through what’s in the box, point out the included metal ring (don’t overlook it), and show how the screen/remote/buttons are laid out. I also cover the practical stuff: it’s not a touchscreen, so you’re using the shutter button on the monitor or the detachable Bluetooth remote to start/stop recording or take photos. You can flip the screen orientation with a button, adjust brightness in four steps, and zoom the monitor view (it only affects what you see, not the recording). One thing I’m very clear about: the monitor itself needs a cable connection to your phone—so it’s not fully wireless—and I couldn’t get the remote’s zoom control working on my iPhone (might be better on Android). Overall though, if you care about rear-camera quality like I do, it’s a handy, affordable way to level up a budget smartphone video setup.
