In this video I’m doing a first look and unboxing on the Phenyx Pro PTU-52 UHF wireless microphone system. It’s a big ol’ box, and inside you’re getting a dual-channel receiver, one handheld mic, and a bodypack that can run either the headset mic or the clip-on lapel. I walk through what’s included, show you the receiver I/O (XLR outs, mix out, antennas, power), and then I get it hooked up to my setup so we can actually hear what it does. From there I do real-world testing: I run the headset mic, talk about the bodypack controls (frequency, volume, mute), and then I take a walk—out of the studio, downstairs, through walls, and outside—so we can see how it behaves at distance. I also demo the handheld mic and the lapel mic, including what happens with handling noise, off-axis rejection on the handheld, and how the lapel sounds clipped at different spots. Price-wise, when I checked, it was about $98.99 on Amazon, and in my opinion that’s a solid “get the job done” option for teachers, DJs, weddings, churches, and big events—especially if you’re not ready to drop Sennheiser money yet.
