I used to be a Xiaomi user, and I’ll be honest: I love how Xiaomi phones are usually powerful and competitive for a cheaper price. But the one thing that made me leave before was MIUI. So when I got the chance to swap my secondary phone to a Xiaomi 12 Lite, I grabbed it—mainly to see if HyperOS (their newer UI) can finally win me back. In this review, I break down what still makes the Xiaomi 12 Lite a solid pick in 2026—design, display, speakers, cameras, performance, battery, and charging. You’re getting a compact 6.55-inch 120Hz AMOLED with great outdoor visibility, a 108MP main cam that I genuinely like for daylight and low light, and fast 67W charging that tops up in under an hour. But it’s not perfect: no headphone jack, no microSD slot, base 128GB storage is not acceptable for its original pricing, and video is shaky because there’s no OIS (plus 4K is capped at 30fps). Then we get to the main point: HyperOS 1.0. I like the lock screen customization, better RAM utilization, and some performance optimizations, but the global version feels like “MIUI 14.5” with limited visual changes. Promising start, but it didn’t fully win me back—yet.
