In this video I finally sat down and properly tried Linux Bazzite, because you lot have been asking me to look at it for ages. I’ve been running it for a few weeks and I’m genuinely impressed — to the point where I honestly think Windows should be scared. Bazzite is basically a Linux-based OS that’s been built with gaming in mind, so it comes packed with the stuff you actually need: drivers, tools, Steam, and even things like MangoHud baked in. To make it a real test, I installed it on a system that’s about as awkward as it gets for Linux gaming: my HP EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF with an i7-7700, 16GB DDR4, a 1TB NVMe, and an Nvidia RTX 3050 6GB low profile. Linux generally behaves better with AMD, so if it can work well here, it’ll be even better on a more compatible setup. Installation was dead simple (honestly easier than Windows), and once I was in, it felt like a clean Windows-style desktop — but with no adverts and no license nonsense. From there I tested a bunch of games, using MangoHud like an MSI Afterburner alternative. Most titles just worked, and in one case (Shadow of the Tomb Raider) Proton fixed the issues instantly. The big caveat is anti-cheat multiplayer games — if you live on Call of Duty or Battlefield, you’ll still need Windows — but for the single-player, cinematic stuff I play, Bazzite has been absolutely brilliant.
