Every now and again GPU manufacturers put out a bit of a stinker, and this time I got my hands on AMD’s “never released” Radeon RX 6300. It’s basically a cut-down RX 6400 on RDNA2 that never properly launched for gamers and only showed up in OEM office-style systems. That means it’s weirdly rare, usually pops up in batches on eBay, and it’s built like a proper low-profile, single-slot card with a tiny (but surprisingly capable) little fan. The big headline specs are rough: 2GB of GDDR6, a tiny 32-bit bus, and a PCIe Gen4 x4 interface that can absolutely tank performance on older Gen3 platforms. I tested it in my Beelink GTi12 mini PC with the EX Dock (i9-12900H, 32GB DDR5) so the card could run at its full potential on PCIe Gen4. Driver-wise, AMD doesn’t even list the RX 6300, but installing RX 6400 drivers works fine and gives you the full software suite—just don’t expect stream/record features, because encoding is cut out like the RX 6400/6500 XT. In Crysis Remastered, “Can it run Crysis?” settings were a slideshow, but dropping to low at 1080p got me into the 50–60 FPS range and made it genuinely playable. The takeaway: yes, you can game on an RX 6300, but you need low settings, sensible expectations, and ideally a Gen4 platform—otherwise you might as well not bother.
