About This Video

In this video I grab a Squier Paranormal Strat-O-Sonic off the shelf (thanks to Bruce at Good Times Music) and put it through the paces like I always do: no hype, no “broke the internet” nonsense—just what it is and what it sounds like. I run through the specs, the weird-but-useful switching, and why this guitar is not an SG no matter how many thumbnails say it is. The big story here is the 24 3/4" scale Fender thing: you get that comfy Strat vibe in your hands, but the tones land more in Mustang-meets-Strat territory, with two really solid P90s doing the heavy lifting. I demo it straight into my Soldano Astro 20 with my Helix in 4-cable method for a little compression and reverb, and I improv the riffs on the spot so you’re hearing what the guitar naturally pulls out of me. The in-between series/parallel and out-of-phase sounds are cool (Brian May quack vibes), even if I personally don’t need them. My main gripe is the push-pull knob choice—mine popped off—so I’d swap to knobs that actually lock on. Overall, if you want affordable P90 tones for alt/indie/shoegaze/emo/punk stuff, this is a solid 7.7/10 and honestly feels more “budget Reverend” than “cheap Gibson substitute.”
