About This Video

In this video, I talk about the question I get all the time when I’m (once again) complaining about Italian bureaucracy: “Do you regret moving to Italy?” And my answer is a hard no. Even with all the issues and frustrations I’ve dealt with for three and a half years straight, I would never regret it—moving to Italy literally changed my life. I met incredible people, had experiences I’ll never forget, learned a ton about myself, and learned an entirely new language. Zero regrets. But then there’s the other question: “Would you recommend moving to Italy?” And that’s where my answer gets complicated. I don’t think I would recommend it broadly, because it’s not for the weak. I’m talking constant, exhausting challenges—getting internet took me about a year and a half, utilities and trash bills can turn into random fines even when you’ve paid, and you’re always dealing with problems that often aren’t even your fault. My PSA is simple: be realistic, do a lot of research, and talk to people in similar situations—because even if you’re prepared, it’s still going to be hard, and Italy can break you if you’re not ready to fight through it.
