About This Video

Every December I get that same rush of “this is the year” energy, and I’ve definitely started January with some insane Italian study plans… only to burn out fast. In this video I explain why quitting your language routine usually has nothing to do with discipline or the “right” app. It’s the system: identity goals like “I want to be fluent” (fluent is a feeling, it’s a vibe), the dopamine hit from planning, and routines that are way too intense to survive real life. I walk you through how I shift from identity goals to behavior goals—things you can actually do and measure, like having 30 real conversations in three months, or interacting with the language twice a day (one active, one passive). I also talk about building a frictionless routine that doesn’t rely on motivation: pick 1–2 study spots, create a default 5-minute task for low-energy days, and stop starting with a daily one-hour plan (you will burn out, I’m telling you). Finally, I show you how to set up your environment and reduce decision fatigue: organize your apps/resources, choose one main grammar resource (one!), add a backup, and schedule monthly checkpoints. And I’m super honest about plateaus and “bad weeks”—I’ve taken long breaks too. The goal is not perfection; it’s “I don’t start over, I continue.”
