Want to learn how to stop translating in your head when speaking in a foreign language? In today’s video, I’m breaking down the exact steps I used to finally start thinking in Italian instead of mentally translating every sentence word-for-word. If you feel stuck, slow, or frustrated because you can’t speak Italian without translating from English first, this video will help. I’ve lived in Italy for 3 years and I’ve learned exactly what actually works — and what doesn’t — when it comes to switching your brain into “Italian mode.” We’ll cover: • Why your brain keeps translating • How to build Italian thinking habits • What to practice daily (even if you’re busy) • How immersion, input, and chunking help • Real examples from my own learning journey Whether you’re learning Italian from home or living in Italy, these practical tips will help you speak faster, understand more, and sound more natural. ✨ If you want more Italian learning tips, study ideas, and advanced strategies, subscribe for more content! --------------------------------------------------------- 📺Learn languages by watching TV! About This Video

In this video I’m answering one of the questions I get all the time: when do you finally stop translating Italian in your head? Even really fluent learners still catch themselves doing it sometimes, so if you feel slow or frustrated, you’re not “bad at Italian.” Your brain is just being efficient. At first it builds the easiest shortcut (Italian word → English word → meaning), and the goal is to rewire that so you go straight from the Italian word to the image or concept—no English step in the middle. I break down what’s actually happening in your brain (declarative vs. procedural memory) and why repetition in real use is what turns “I know this word” into “I can say it automatically.” Then I share the habits that helped me: narrating my day out loud (my favorite is in the shower or in the car), naming and describing objects around me with sensory language, reading slightly easier content so you can stay in the flow, and reading aloud to reinforce comprehension. I also talk about switching flashcards from English translations to images, plus mindset shifts like focusing on communication over perfection and using journaling/voice notes to track how your pauses shrink over time—especially once you get more exposure living in Italy.
