About This Video

This is one simple study activity that seriously improved my Italian speaking, and it’s honestly kind of fun because it feels like real conversation practice. I use a random questions website or generator, pick a question, and then I just start answering out loud in Italian—stream of consciousness style. I keep a notebook in front of me, but I don’t set a timer or stop to “be perfect.” I just talk for as long as it takes to answer the question or tell the story. While I’m speaking, anytime I get tripped up on a word, phrase, or grammar construction, I write it down. If I don’t know how to say something, I’ll literally say that part in English, keep going, and move on—speaking, writing, speaking, writing—because I don’t want to interrupt the flow to look things up mid-sentence. After I’m done, that’s when I look up the correct phrasing (I usually use Reverso Context, not Google Translate, because I want real usage examples). Then I try telling the story again using the new words and structures. This helps me find gaps in my vocab and grammar, and it gives me a list I can review later. I challenge you to try it a few times this week and see what happens.
