Tutorial #61 | Kalimba Synthesizing In Serum

Hi guys hope you're all doing well & staying safe :) This subject is a fun request I got a while ago, and also a great way to start experimenting with Serum's wavetable editor! Most kalimba/marimba/xylophone tutorials start with sampling a real instrument into the noise osc or the wavetable editor, so I figured making it from scratch inside the wavetable editor could be an easier way in case you don't have a real life sample of said instrument :) I encourage you guys to try making various overtones layouts for this sound inside the wavetable editor and saving them as wavetables, so you can compare which one sounds the best for your patch! Also - adding some convolution reverb to your patch really makes it sound like it was recorded and played in a room, which makes it sound more like a live instrument than a synth :) A side note for other synths - in case you can't make your own wavetables, most synths have a general marimba/xylophone/Kalimba wavetable that has just a sine wave on one side, and a more noisy wavetable on its other end. So when you modulate it to go from the noisy wavetable to the sine wave really fast you should get a similar sound.
