Hey everyone! We got to tutorial #30!!!! For this one I decided to take a really cool sound design idea Virtual Riot showed in a video he did with Splice: https://youtu.be/xf_1NYhoRTY?t=165 Basically the idea is using an atonal noise, and accentuating a certain frequency peak in it to make it tonal, using the Peak 24 filter in serum with resonance set all the way up. Then once you enable keyboard tracking, it's going to accentuate different notes as you play different midi notes, resulting in a tonal instrument. Now this is where the Splice video sort of stops elaborating on the sound, so I decided to also show how you can create the preset being showcased there by using random elements in serum such as the chaos osc to modulate how the noise osc plays. Then once you add some reverb and delay, (and optionally some chorus, unison & phaser) you can get that big soundscape out of just a noise pluck ;) I'm well aware this one is a bit more complex so if there's something that isn't clear about the video feel free to ask away in the comments and I'll try to help you out as much as I can :) One thing to note: this patch might not be necessarily tuned to C like other patches since the starting pitch of your peak filter may vary. I show one way in the video to determine the starting pitch of your serum patch but you can also do this by playing a C note on serum and using a Guitar Tuner app to check which note is it playing. If there's a subject/sound you want me to cover in one of my future tutorials let me know in the comments below ;) Enjoy! ----------- My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/sharpendmoosic Contact me at: sharpendmoosic@gmail.com ----------- Background Link: https://flic.kr/p/dWsrEM Taken by Andrey Marshak, modified by Sharpend.
