About This Video

In this video I’m breaking down how I finally finished my song “Tired” after it sat as a demo for basically three years. I wrote most of it in one day back in August 2020 right after I got my first audio interface and a mic stand: improvised electric guitar riff, quick demo vocals, a drum loop, a little solo, and some strings. The thing that kept me stuck was being torn between “don’t ruin the magic of the original demo” and “this needs new parts if it’s ever going to be a real song.” So I walk through the exact production moves that got me unstuck. First: resample and repurpose what you already have—chop breaks into tiny pieces, reverse bits, rearrange rhythms, pitch an acoustic guitar down an octave to calm a section, or slam distortion on the same guitar recording to make it feel huge later. Second: lean on randomized FX (granular stuff, slowly moving filters, weird pedals) and record minutes of chaos, then pick the best moments—most of the atmospheres in this track came from that. Third: add something new even if it’s bad, because it gives your brain a fresh starting point (my failed bridge idea still led me to the final ending). I also show a couple “weird decisions” like 100% wet reverb freezes, and I end with a productivity tip: don’t export your demo constantly—make listening require opening the project so you actually keep moving forward.
