In this video I unbox and review the Royal Kludge RK96, a 96% triple‑mode, hot-swappable mechanical keyboard that’s absolutely loaded with features for the price. I go through what you get in the box (magnetic wrist rest, keycap/switch puller, extra brown switches, and the USB‑A to USB‑C cable), then break down the design and layout—96 keys with a few keys relocated to keep it compact. I also cover the dedicated mute/volume controls, the flip-out feet, and one of my favorite standout features: the built-in USB hub with two extra USB‑A ports. I tested the triple connection modes (Bluetooth 5.0, 2.4GHz dongle, and wired USB‑C), battery expectations (RK claims up to 250 hours with lights off and 30 hours with lights on), and the switch/keycap experience. The ABS doubleshot caps feel good and let the blue backlight shine through evenly, and the hot-swap PCB supports 3‑pin and 5‑pin switches so you can mod it easily. I also do a sound test and talk about the internal foam that helps cut noise and reduce hollow sounds. My take: at around $79, it’s a strong value with a couple warnings—wireless can have some latency (especially waking from sleep), and my real-world battery life with lighting on was closer to ~20 hours. Still, if you want a feature-rich 96% gaming keyboard without breaking the bank, the RK96 is a top contender.
