In this video, I tested the ASUS ROG Aura Monitor Light Bar (ALB01) to see if it actually earns that $199 premium price tag. I unbox it, assemble it, and show how the patented clamp system works on both flat and curved monitors. Setup is simple: press the bar into the base, plug in USB-C power, set it on top of your monitor, and tighten the weighted dial. From there, I run through the on-bar controls for brightness and color temperature (2700K warm to 6500K cool), plus the three lighting modes: desk/screen light, rear Aura RGB glow, and a combined mode. I also talk about what matters for a real desk setup: reducing eye strain and fatigue, minimizing screen glare, saving desk space, and getting clean task lighting that makes your setup look good. The asymmetrical lighting design is meant to point light down onto your desk while minimizing reflections, and the lighting quality is strong on paper (over 800 lux center illumination and RA > 95 CRI for color accuracy). I do show the ASUS Display Widget software too—it's a bit clunky, but useful when I want to pick a specific RGB color. My bottom line: as a quality monitor light bar with premium build and solid desk lighting, it performs well—especially if you’re already in the ROG/Aura Sync ecosystem. But the RGB glow behind the monitor is dimmer than I expected for the price, so if your main goal is big ambient wall lighting, you’ll probably want other options.
