About This Video

In this free Cubase masterclass, I’m showing you my full start-to-finish workflow for recording clean, pro vocals in a home studio. I’m right here with Boy Ryel, and we record lead vocals, then we move into backup vocals and harmonies, while I explain the exact session setup that prevents common issues. The first thing I always say is: set up your session properly. I go to Audio Connections, delete the wrong input setup (so your mic doesn’t come from one ear), then I add a mono input bus and select the correct mic input before creating my “Lead Vox” audio track. From there, I build a simple but effective recording chain: tuning first (I use Waves Tune Real-Time), then compression to keep the vocal consistent, then noise removal (RX Voice De-noise) to keep the recording clean—while warning you about CPU if your system isn’t strong. I also set up reverb and delay as sends so the vocalist can perform into a vibe instead of a dry signal. During the session, I adjust levels (often turning the beat down) and tighten the compressor threshold when it’s not clamping enough. Finally, I show you how I duplicate the lead track to create backup vocals with the same processing, so everything stays consistent and professional.
