About This Video

In this video, I show you my step-by-step workflow for recording pro vocals in FL Studio from a home studio setup. I’m recording a cover with my guy Boy Royale, and I take you through the exact session setup I use so you can get clean, high-quality takes without stress. The big thing is getting your audio settings right one time—then you can reuse the same setup for every session. I go into Options > Audio Settings, make sure you’re on your real audio driver, and I recommend keeping your buffer length under 100 samples so you have almost zero latency (no annoying delay in your headphones). From there, I set up an audio track properly (Playlist track mode > Audio track), link it to an empty mixer insert, choose the correct mic input, and make sure the recording stays raw (so effects don’t get printed into the take). I also show you how I test-record first, how to balance the beat vs vocals (most times the beat is just too loud), and how I organize takes like lead vocals, doubles, and backups. Then I add a simple monitoring chain—tuning (key/scale), noise cleanup, compression/leveling, and a reverb send—so the artist can vibe while recording. This workflow works whether you’re doing Afrobeats, Amapiano, Hip-Hop, or Pop.
