About This Video

In this video, I show you my simple, beginner-friendly way to record clean vocals in FL Studio from scratch. I’m recording with Boy Royale, and I focus on the key things you must set up every single session: your tempo and your key. For tempo/key, I recommend using tunebat.com/analyzer, then I set the tempo directly in FL Studio (like 90 BPM in this session). For the key, I set it inside my tuning plugin (you can use Pitcher in FL Studio or Waves Tune) so your vocalist is locked in from the start. I also show you how I run a quick test record: arm the right mixer track (lead vocal), select the correct input (like Input 2 if that’s where your mic is connected), and record a short take to check levels. If your beat is louder than the vocal, I just reduce the beat volume so the artist can hear properly while recording. And very important—if the “detected” key feels wrong, trust your ears: in this session Tunebat felt off, so I switched keys and even cross-checked with chordify.net until it sounded accurate. From there, I record the lead, then disarm it and arm the backup vocal track, adjust tuning as needed, and capture the doubles. That’s the exact workflow I use before exporting or moving into full vocal mixing.
