About This Video

In this video, I show you my simple, beginner-friendly way to record PRO vocals in FL Studio from scratch. I’m in the studio with Prommy and we go step-by-step: first I set the tempo of the beat (I just right-click, detect tempo, and set it), then I route the beat to the right section and open the mixer to choose the correct mic input for my lead vocals and backups. If you’ve got my Afro Vocal Preset, you can skip a lot of setup because the free recording templates already come pre-routed and prepped for a clean, sweet recording session—just drag your beat in and pick your input. I also show you how I quickly find the key/scale of the beat (I recommend tunebass.com/analyzer), then I load a tuning plugin (AutoTune/WaveTune/Pitcher) and set the key/scale. After that, I use “send to all” so every instance matches—this saves a ton of time. Finally, I handle the two biggest things that mess up home recordings: latency and balance. I go to Audio Settings and keep my buffer length below 100, then I do a test take, adjust levels (usually the beat is too loud at first), and record in takes until the performance is clean. Next video, I’ll show you how I mix the vocals to sound release-ready.
