In this video, I show you how to make modern Afrobeat from scratch in FL Studio—drums, chords, melodies, bass, and the full arrangement. I start by setting the tempo (most Afrobeats sit around 90–120 BPM), then I build a solid drum groove first so it’s easier for you to follow. I use my Safi Drumkit to lay the kick, a typical Afro rim pattern, and multiple percussions (I usually recommend at least 1–2, but you can go up to 5–8 if you want that layered bounce). I also show you how to shape sounds, like linking a rim to the mixer (Ctrl+L) and shaving off highs with EQ so it fits the vibe. After the drums, I move into chords using an electric piano (Lounge Lizard) and I guide you on staying in key by following the light grey lines and using “snap to scale.” I also show you how to revoice chords, create bass notes from the chord roots, randomize velocity (Alt+R), and strum (Alt+S) so it doesn’t feel too on-grid. Then I add counters, a flute-style melody, an ambient texture (Analog Lab), pads, strings, and bass (with variations for verse vs hook). Finally, I bring in a guitar loop and teach you an easy way to transpose using relative keys, then I arrange everything into intro, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, and outro with transitions and rolls so your beat feels like a real production.
