About This Video

In this video, I show you how I make an emotional Afro swing / guitar Afrobeat type beat in FL Studio, step by step—Wizkid vibe. I start by setting the tempo around 97 BPM (I wanted to go slow today), then I jump straight into the Channel Rack and build a clean drum foundation using the SAFI drumkit. I pick a solid kick, a rim shot, then I play with the kick pattern, add hats, and pitch the hats a bit higher so the groove feels alive but still simple. From there, I move into chords and melody layering. I load up Keyscape for electric pianos, choose F major, and I stick to the scale (those light gray lines) to get that classic emotional Afrobeat chord movement. I layer another piano for a moody feel, add bass notes, then create a lead melody and ambient textures using sounds I personally like to use a lot. After that, I bring in the Ahiri guitar loop, pitch it up 100 cents to match my key, cut out parts I don’t like, and EQ it so it sits properly. Finally, I create the bass with Triton Extreme, add a shake, and explain that at this point you’re basically done—then it’s just arrangement (intro, verse, hook) and extra layers like vocal chops if you want.
