Trail Running in the Petrified Forest National Park Wilderness | Arizona

This video documents a trail-running exploration of the northern wilderness area of Petrified Forest National Park, filmed during spring when the high-desert environment begins its transition from winter conditions. In this season, temperatures are generally cool to mild, the broad plateaus of the Painted Desert show early hints of green in grasses and low shrubs, and occasional spring wildflowers may appear in scattered patches depending on recent moisture. The northern backcountry consists of open, unmarked terrain with expansive views, gently rolling badlands, clay hills with blue-gray and red sediment layers, and isolated deposits of petrified wood lying naturally across the ground surface. Vegetation remains sparse, allowing uninterrupted visibility across long distances and highlighting the geological features that define this part of the park. The video captures these landscapes without narration as the route moves across mesas, shallow washes, and eroded formations characteristic of the wilderness zone in springtime.
