Hiking the Lassen Volcanic Wilderness Lakes | Part 2: Horseshoe Lake to Summit Lake | 4K HDR

This video documents the second half of a loop hike through the wilderness lakes area of Lassen Volcanic National Park in Northern California. The complete loop covers approximately 25.0 km (15.5 mi) with around 700 m (2,297 ft) of cumulative elevation gain, beginning and ending at Summit Lake. The overall route passes several remote backcountry lakes, including Echo Lake, Upper Twin Lake, Lower Twin Lake, and Horseshoe Lake. This second section documents the return hike from Horseshoe Lake back to Summit Lake through remote volcanic forest terrain and quieter sections of the Lassen wilderness. The route gradually transitions from isolated lake basins and forested ridgelines back toward the Summit Lake area, where wildfire effects remain visible across portions of the landscape. Burned and recovering forest sections reflect the long-term impact of the 2021 Dixie Fire and related wildfire activity in the southeastern areas of the park. Filmed in real time in 4K HDR with ambient forest hiking sounds, the video presents an objective visual record of trail conditions, volcanic terrain, recovering forest ecosystems, remote backcountry landscapes, and the final return to Summit Lake.
