Scenic Drive Via Switzerland’s Alpine Passes | Albula, Great St. Bernard, Maloja, Simplon, Grimsel

This video documents a road trip across several major Swiss alpine passes, showcasing the variation in terrain and culture along the route. The journey begins with the Albula Pass, rising from the Engadin Valley and passing stone viaducts and alpine meadows near the UNESCO-listed Albula Railway line. The route continues west to the Great St. Bernard Pass, an ancient crossing into Italy through a glaciated saddle marked by historical monuments and hospice buildings. From northern Italy, the drive returns to Switzerland over the Simplon Pass, descending into the Upper Valais region near Brig. The Maloja Pass connects the St. Moritz alpine lake district with the Italian-speaking Bregaglia Valley, with a steep descent of switchbacks and forested slopes. After returning through the Great St. Bernard corridor, the drive concludes with the Grimsel Pass, crossing high granite plateaus and glacial reservoirs above the Rhône Valley.
