Hiking Monument Canyon Trail (Upper to Lower Trailhead) | Colorado National Monument | 4K HDR

This video documents the descending section of the Monument Canyon Trail in Colorado National Monument, following the route from the Upper Monument Canyon Trailhead near Rim Rock Drive down to the Lower Monument Canyon Trailhead. The hike covers approximately 9.4 km (5.8 miles) one way, descending from about 1,866 meters (6,122 feet) above sea level to roughly 1,442 meters (4,731 feet), through the dramatic desert canyon landscape of the Colorado Plateau. Along the route, the trail passes beneath towering Wingate sandstone walls and provides close views of several of the monument’s most recognizable formations, including Independence Monument, the Kissing Couple, and the Coke Ovens. The terrain includes rocky ledges, sandy washes, dry canyon floor sections, and sparse desert vegetation, creating a continuous visual record of the canyon’s geology and trail conditions. This video is presented as an objective documentation of the full upper-to-lower hiking section, without narration, emphasizing the natural atmosphere and large-scale sandstone scenery of Colorado National Monument.
