About This Video

We’re four to five days into the Canning Stock Route and it’s already doing what the Canning does best—setting the pace and humbling you. We started behind schedule, pushing hard to claw back time, and it took its toll on gear, vehicles, and even our heads. So in this episode I finally give in to it: stop fighting the track, drop the expectations, and just go with the flow. We roll through proper desert country—big dunes (my favourite environment), salt lakes, rocks, and brutal corrugations—while trying to keep the convoy moving and the mood up. Along the way I show exactly how not to hit a dune (wrong speed, wrong momentum) and what actually works—calm inputs, the right gear, and most importantly correct tyre pressures. I also run through real outback checks: fuel, loose cargo, and spinifex under the car (especially dangerous around hot exhaust/DPF). We pass wells that still matter, because out here you can’t assume help is close—people have been stranded for weeks. We also come across the Canning’s reminders: abandoned gear, a dead Land Rover on the track, and a snapped 70 Series diff housing that’s a genuine trip-ender. Then the weather front builds, the fuel light comes on, and we’re staring down the big decision—push on toward the only supply point, or risk getting flooded out.
