In this video I’m going through a stack of 4WD mods that get pushed as “must-haves”, but a lot of them are either overkill, pointless, or can actually make your setup worse. My team hit me with a few that I’m guilty of too—like my 76 Series running a 4-inch lift and 35s. Do I go to epic places with it? Yep. Does it need it? No. Half the time we’re all going to the same tracks anyway, and big lifts, big tyres and big wheels can just add stress, cost, and compromise for not much real gain. I talk about stuff like 18-inch-plus rims (you’re killing your sidewall), single rooftop tents (just run a swag), roof-mounted water tanks (getting 40L up there is downright dangerous), rear winches (I mostly used mine because I couldn’t be bothered turning around), mud tyres on trailers, and running two fridges (it’s usually overkill—just get a bigger fridge unless you’ve got a real reason). I also get into “vibe lights”/rock lights, nuclear-level driving lights and why too much light can actually wreck your vision, fake bonnet scoops, twin snorkels, no-hoop bullbars, and why I’m not a fan of auto/lunchbox lockers. The takeaway is simple: build for your actual trips, not for the internet.
