You might see people test a vehicle for a day, but you rarely get to see the same car, same driver, same terrain—through different stages of a build. That’s exactly what I did with the INEOS Grenadier Quartermaster: tub to tray to full canopy, and now the half canopy. The big change here is weight distribution—pulling weight closer to the axles and getting rid of that heavy overhang out the back (about 250kg). Today isn’t about whether it can do it… it’s about how easy it does it on proper technical tracks where a full canopy is honestly a bit stupid unless you have to. I ran it through wombat holes, ruts, rocks, and tight climbs to see where the mods actually help and where they bite you. The half canopy feels genuinely balanced and it keeps the wheels on the deck more, which means more traction and more capability. I also get into the 35-inch tyre reality—clearance is awesome with a 3-inch lift, but there are trade-offs like alignment, scrubbing questions (especially if you’re on a tub), and downhill control that left me slightly disappointed compared to my benchmark 70 Series tests. And yeah, confidence can turn into overconfidence real quick. I bellied it on rock, had to get the boards out, and it highlighted something that needs changing ASAP: the factory rock sliders sit too recessed to really protect the doors when things go pear-shaped on the rocks.
