About This Video

Modified is finally back, and instead of just one rig I put two 76 Series LandCruisers head-to-head: my newer 2024 2.8L four-cylinder auto versus Jaden’s older V8 manual. We walk around both setups properly—front protection, winch choices (steel cable vs rope), lights, scrub bars, side steps vs real rock sliders, and the whole snorkel vs “raised air intake” confusion. I explain why I run less clutter on the front (I don’t want antennas and “lightsabers” in my face), and we get honest about what’s practical versus what just looks tough. Out the back and up top is where the builds really split. I’m all about roof loads for real trips: swags, MaxTrax on both sides so you can jump out either side when you’re bogged, 270 awning on the passenger side, shower tent, and my antenna mounted high off the ladder. Jaden’s running a rooftop tent and a rear bar setup with more options (jerry holders, tyre off the door), but you do pay in weight and extra “actions” every time you want to open things. Then we swap keys and drive them. The V8 feels like a tank and the low-end torque is addictive, but the modern 2.8 auto is refined and easy to live with. The takeaway is simple: there’s no single “best” 76—there’s only what suits your trips, your packing style, and how you actually use the thing.
