Let’s hear some metal tones today, shall we? In this video I’m checking out the NU-X Metal Core Deluxe MKII (the V2/Mark 2 version of their Metal Core Deluxe distortion). It’s a straight-up high gain distortion pedal with a 3-band EQ, gain, master volume, standard 9V power, and a USB port that I’m assuming is there for patch/tone management (and maybe even interface use if you needed to). The big deal here is the middle switch: it flips between three different high-gain “amp-style” modes. Those three modes are Duo Rect (Dual Rectifier-style), Fireman (which should sound familiar if you’ve seen my NU-X Fireman demo—one of the best distortion pedals I’ve ever had on this channel, and basically a BE-OD-style thing for a lot less money), and VH4 (Diezel VH4-style). I do quick comparisons so you can hear the different voicings as I flip the switch, and then I do a full-track demo where I stacked all three modes on top of each other—fully admitting it’s mostly for my own amusement and probably won’t help your buying decision much. Bottom line: for $89, it’s not “bottom of the barrel budget,” but it’s absolutely affordable for a 3-mode metal distortion pedal.
