In this week’s Knit 50 Squares episode, I’m working on Square #10: “The Diagonal One” from Anna Pantelous’ Learn to Knit in 50 Squares. The whole point of this series is to show up as I am—sometimes confident, sometimes a little fearful—and still learn new knitting techniques one square at a time. If you’re a brand new knitter, or you’re like me and you look at a technique and immediately think, “oh I can’t do that,” this is your sign to try it anyway. For The Diagonal One, I’m focusing on how the fabric changes when you build the shape on a diagonal, and how that affects your edges, your stitch count, and the overall look of the square. I’m treating it like a cozy stitch-along chat where we keep it practical: take it slow, check your work as you go, and don’t be afraid to restart if it gets wonky. The biggest takeaway is that learning new processes is still the goal—progress over perfection, and another square in the stack is still a win.
