In this video I unbox and properly test the FIFINE K688CT (they told me it’s pronounced “fine fine” — I would’ve said “fine” but there you go). I’ve got the full kit here with the boom arm, and straight away I was impressed with the build quality: loads of thick foam in the packaging, metal clamp, a ridiculously long USB-C cable, and a double-sprung arm that actually feels like they haven’t cheaped out. The mic itself looks and feels really nice, with USB-C, XLR, and a 3.5mm monitoring jack on the back, plus gain and headphone volume controls. Then I record the rest of the video using the mic over USB, plugged straight into my PC (no drivers, just plug and play). The big takeaway for me is how well it rejects background noise: I’m in my living room with the TV on about 8–9 feet away, and it’s basically not picking it up at all. Because it’s an end-address dynamic mic, you need to speak into the end from around 2–6 inches, and you can really hear the difference when I move off-axis or further back. For the money (well under £100 with the arm), I genuinely recommend it — hell yeah — especially if you do podcasts, streaming, or voiceovers in a not-so-silent home.
