In this video I unbox and properly test the Rongta F81 portable thermal printer (they sent it to me for review), and the big headline is simple: it can print A4, and you can literally take it anywhere. I’ve messed about with smaller thermal printers before—label makers and those tiny instant-print gadgets—but this one feels properly usable. I go through what you get in the box, the build, where the ports are (USB‑C and a reset pin), and how the paper loads from the top and feeds out the front. I also cover connectivity, because that’s a big win here. I tested it wired over USB on the computer (drivers needed) and from my phone using the “So Print” app, which is actually one of the better apps I’ve used on these kinds of devices. It supports Windows, Mac, Chrome, Linux, iOS and Android, plus Bluetooth. Print quality is what you’d expect from thermal—don’t buy it for high-detail photos—but for quick documents, maps, schedules and simple schematics it does a bloody good job. At around £59.99 (and I saw it on offer nearer £49.99), with no ink to clog up, I’m genuinely impressed and I’ll be using it.
