Today, we’re reviewing the brand-new Ebonite The One Ovation — a hybrid asymmetric bowling ball designed for heavy volumes with a smooth, controllable response. This ball continues the legendary One line with GB 15.1 Hybrid Coverstock wrapped around the HC22 core tech, offering midlane strength with reliable continuation. We’ll also compare it directly to the Brunswick Combat (a pearl asym) to see where each fits in your arsenal. Thank you to Center Bowl for letting us film our ball reviews. Here’s what you’ll learn: ✅ How the Ovation reads the midlane vs. Combat’s longer, snappier motion ✅ Why hybrids are the “in-between” option between solids and pearls ✅ The impact of layouts on ball flare and shape (50 × 4 ¾ × 40 vs. Tall Pin-Up) ✅ How to categorize your arsenal by volume & response for smarter decisions 📌 Timestamps: 0:00 – Intro & Specs (The One Ovation) 0:41 – Why Compare to the Brunswick Combat 1:11 – Test House Shot Setup 1:28 – First Arrow / Gutter Test 2:42 – Midlane Read Observations 3:56 – Asym Shape vs Sym Shape 5:20 – Layout & Drilling Explanation 6:10 – Manipulating Speed, Rotation & Hand Position 7:52 – Misses & Honest Review Notes 11:33 – Ovation vs Combat Comparison 13:15 – Layout Differences (Hybrid vs Pearl) 15:12 – Key Takeaway: Heavy Volume • Medium Response 20:29 – Outro & Final Thoughts 👉 Have you thrown The One Ovation or Combat yet? About This Video

In this video I’m reviewing the brand-new Ebonite The One Ovation—an HK22C piece with the GB 15.1 Hybrid cover wrapped around that big HC22 core tech. The One line has been a staple forever, and I went into this expecting a true high-end, heavy-volume look: midlane strength with that familiar “One” continuation, but with a smoother, more controllable response than the really quick stuff. I tested it on a higher volume house shot so I could move across the lane, miss a little (because I’m human), and actually show you what it likes and what it doesn’t. I also did something a little different and compared it directly to the Brunswick Combat, because a lot of you are trying to figure out where these bigger asyms fit in the same bag. For me, the Ovation is heavy volume with a medium response—more of that smooth/control look that blends friction—while the Combat (pearl asym) is cleaner and responds quicker when it sees friction. Layout matters too: I drilled the Ovation 50 × 4 3/4 × 40 to help it be a bit more left-to-right without getting crazy, and the Combat with a tall pin-up to give me that quicker downlane motion. Bottom line: if you like The One shape and you want a strong ball that doesn’t feel overly jumpy, the Ovation is a really smart slot.
